Gavin Saville is a Wild Indie Director and the founder of the company. He is a naturalist and freelance film maker and photographer. He trained for his BSc in Ecology at the University of East Anglia and MSc in Applied Marine Science at the University of Plymouth. He has worked and studied on a number of projects all over the world but perhaps his favourite job was relaunching Basking Shark Watch with the Marine Conservation Society some years ago. He also worked within the theatre industry in London for some time with a large promotions agency.
Give him a camera, lens, jib, housing, or anything that could be remotely described as gadgety and he will be in his element. He will also probably go sit in a field with it for hours on end getting it dirty whilst filming wildlife.
Likes: Kit, food, and animals.
Dislikes: Broken kit and having to do admin.
Wild Indie is an image acquisition and independent production company. We specialises in an unusual combination of natural history, corporate and promotional film, and creative performance art photography. Two of the company directors have a background in science and converted to image production some years ago.
Our commissions have helped fund the development of our wildlife and science films. We work with live performance artists of many different types and thoroughly enjoy it.
When working with wildlife we work with the highest ethics. When working with people we are professional and polite.
This website shows just some of our work but please note that contractual commitments may stop us from showing some work openly before specific release dates.
Geoff Saville works with concept development, scripting, and when able is an assistant camera operator. Geoff trained in Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia and then continued in that vein by becoming a weatherman. His day job is spotting floods for the Met Office and he gives us his services free of charge. He does that because he is that kind of guy and because he is another one of the company directors.
Geoff is also turning his hand to directing short pieces and dreams of making that hit horror movie he is writing.
Likes: Water in its various phase states (that is clouds, snow, etc to us non meteorologists) and zombie movies. Business upgrades. Cats (they seem to like him too).
Dislikes: Poor internet connections. Sunburn.
About Wild Indie
A note on Wildlife Photography and Film
This should go without saying but when working with wildlife, we work with the highest ethics. Animals are put first. We do not harass or disturb animals just for the sake of film or photos and we ask others not to. We work around the animals.
Addendum
We do understand that interactions between people and animals happen and (as our documentary and work with the Bermuda Shark Project will demonstrate) we are not afraid to be open minded regarding unforced and "spiritual" interactions. On a number of occasions we have been "investigated" by animals. However, we do not encourage the "jump on the animal and show it to the camera" type work. We also appreciate that interactions for scientific research and projects sometimes are a necessary requirement of the work and often make interesting filming.
It should be noted that, in the UK, it's against the law to disturb or harass any flora and fauna listed under Sch 1 and 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
